The printer is not responding when powered on. The most common causes of this issue are poor cord connections, poor power source, or a faulty
power supply in the printer. A faulty
Electronics module can also cause similar symptoms. Use the step listed below to determine the actual cause of the failure and to replace the appropriate parts.
Parts required (part numbers are subject to change)
Troubleshooting steps
- Disconnect the printer from any surge protectors, universal power supplies or other similar devices and connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet.
- If unsuccessful try another wall outlet.
- Try another power cord (if available).
- If the problem persists, replace the
power
supply. Refer to the 500/800 Series Service Manual pages 8-27 and 8-28 and pages 8-5 and 8-6 for instructions.
- Following replacement of the
power
supply, turn the printer ON and attempt to verify functionality.
- If replacement of the
power supply does not solve the problem, replace the
Electronics
Module. Refer to the HP Designjet 500/800 Series Service Manual pages 8-24 through 8-26 and pages 8-5 and 8-6 for instructions.
- Following replacement, continue with verifying printer functionality.
Verifying printer functionality
- Turn the printer on.
- Allow initialization to complete.
- Load media into the printer.
- From the main front-panel menu, select the Ink menu and press ENTER.
- Select Troubleshooting and press ENTER.
- Follow the instructions on the front panel.
- Following a successful troubleshooting plot, have the customer send a file from the computer and make sure the file prints correctly.
